1/2O are busy writing to their own pals in India, teaching them about how we celebrate special occasions, events and dates in Australia. Many of them wrote about Halloween given the date! We can’t wait to receive letters back from our pen pals so that we can learn about how and what they celebrate in India.

Making Friends Around the World
As part of Stage 1’s history unit, ‘Celebrations Around the World’, I have signed up to an international project called ‘Making Friends Around the World’. Stage 1 students have been paired up with a pen pal from either Spain, Cyprus or India and are exchanging letters about how we celebrate special days/events in our own countries. This week I will be hosting a drawing competition in the library at lunchtimes, with the winning drawings being included in an international calendar.
This project is a great way for students to learn about culture, traditions and lifestyles from primary sources. We are also providing students with opportunities to become global citizens.
3/4K making a ‘time-chain’
3/4K made a ‘time-chain’ to show how long Aboriginal people have inhabited Australia (50 000 years) compared with how long the English have been living in our country (230 years), since the First Fleet arrived in Sydney Cove on 26th January, 1788. Each link in the chain represents 250 years. 3/4K agreed that that is a lot of history! They worked well together and had lots of fun.
